Cathedral welcomes pope with banner

The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul unveil a large welcome banner at the main entrance on July 29 in anticipation of the visit of Pope Francis to Philadelphia. The banner unveiling is one of a series of activities that will be hosted at the cathedral in celebration of the World Meeting of Families and the papal visit.

In addition, the Baptismal Font of Saint Katherine Drexel, as well as her portrait and baptismal record, are now on display in the cathedral’s baptistry. On Sept. 23, the cathedral will host the lecture “The Renaissance of Sacred Architecture Today,” by Duncan Stroik, a professor of classical architecture at the University of Notre Dame. Lecture seats can be reserved by calling 215–917–9077 or visiting www.classicist-phila.org.

Finally, the cathedral will host “Drop In Tours” on select summer weekdays. There is no admission charge, but free will offerings will be accepted. Visit the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul page on Facebook for dates and times. ••
